Korean & US Citizenship
Information
The Child Citizenship Act of 2000 provides automatic U.S. citizenship for international adoptees under the age of eighteen as of 2/27/01. Some older adoptees whose citizenship paperwork was not filed have encountered legal issues. Legislation is underway to hopefully make the CCA 2000 retroactive and address related issues. In South Korea, recent law also makes dual citizenship possible for Korean-born international adoptees.
