Side by Side Film: Out of a South Korean Orphanage and Into the World

Message from the filmmakers: Within this documentary film is a full range of human experience—from love to hate, acceptance to rejection, nurturing to abuse, blessed to broken. Such is the nature of understanding 60-plus years of institutionalization and intercountry adoption of South Korean infants and children.

This film contains descriptions of intense and emotionally charged situations and adult language and is not appropriate for young children. Teens should view this content with a parent or adult, and should be encouraged to discuss the experience after viewing.

The opening of the documentary has a short narration. Upon following the film link, the transcript can be found at the bottom of the screen. Except for the beginning, the film has open captions.

Side by Side: Out of a South Korean Orphanage and Into the World will be available for online streaming from June 21 at 12:00 PM Eastern through June 26 at 11:59 PM Eastern. We encourage you to watch on your own and RSVP for a Community Conversation to share your reactions.
